Art Museum and Gallery StudiesCertificate ProgramThe California State University, East Bay graduate-level Certificate in Art Museum and Gallery Studies prepares those seeking careers in art museums, galleries and cultural centers for entry-level positions. The only such program offered in the San Francisco Bay Area and one of the few in the United States, students who take advantage of Cal State East Bay's certificate program will learn from a noted curator and seasoned instructor. Lanier Graham is the former Chief Curator of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and a member of the Training Committee of the International Council of Museums. His students have secured positions at Bay Area museums such as the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, UC Berkeley Art Museum, Stanford University Art Museum and Hearst Art Gallery at Saint Mary's College. With on-campus class sizes capped at four students, students also will enjoy significant personal attention. Classes are held at the Hayward Hills campus, but the program is also offered online, making it available to interested students both in the East Bay Area and anywhere else in the world. The program combines basic knowledge and theory with practical application through two required internships. We offer this program in cooperation with the Cal State East Bay Art Department and the Institute for Aesthetic Development (IAD). Program Objectives
