Home InspectionCertificate ProgramThe California State University, East Bay Certificate in Home Inspection offers aspiring home inspectors the fundamental training that will help them excel in the field and win the confidence of the people who may seek to hire them. Designed by the National Institute of Building Inspectors (NIBI), an organization that has trained more than 3,000 home inspectors, Cal State East Bay's intensive program combines one introductory lesson with 11 technical lessons. The technical lessons cover standards of practice, defects recognition, inspection guidelines and reporting methods as they apply to roof systems, structural systems, insulation and ventilation, plumbing systems, heating systems, cooling systems and the other major elements of a home. It also provides students extensive glossaries, reference articles, inspection procedure lists and common defect lists. Our program's online-only format makes it convenient for anyone in the world, not just those who live or work in the San Francisco East Bay Area. While there are no specific prerequisites to enter the program, the more knowledge of residential construction a student has the more able he or she will be to complete the lessons within a reasonable time.
