The California State University, East Bay Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certificate prepares graduates for the MCDBA series of certification exams, gives them the skills they need to lead organizations in the successful design, implementation and administration of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and provides them a credential that will increase their marketability.

Cal State East Bay's certificate is an excellent option for database administrators, database analysts, database developers and anyone else whose work involves or will involve deriving physical database designs, developing logical data models, creating physical databases, creating data services using Transact-SQL, managing and maintaining databases, configuring and managing security, monitoring and optimizing databases, or installing and configuring SQL Server.

Program Objectives

  • To give graduates the ability to describe SQL Server architecture, plan for a SQL Server installation and install an instance of SQL Server.
  • To give graduates skill in monitoring and optimizing SQL Server performance and maintaining high availability.
  • To provide graduates expertise in configuring login security, planning and implementing database permissions and protecting SQL Server in an enterprise network.
  • To equip graduates to manage files and databases, transfer and migrate data into databases, implement backup strategies and perform other fundamental activities.
  • To familiarize graduates with how to perform and automate administrative tasks and create custom administrative tools.
  • To prepare graduates for the MCDBA series of certification exams: 70-210 - Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional; 70-215 - Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Server; 70-216 -Implementing and Administering a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure; 70-228 - System Administration for Microsoft SQL Server 2000; 70-229 - Designing and Implementing Databases with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition.
