Adult Education Credential Courses

The California State University, East Bay Adult Education Credential courses help adult and vocational education teachers meet the California Teaching Performance Standards for Adult Education (Standards 10 - 18) and at the same time learn and apply adult education best practices in their classrooms.

Program Objectives

  • Assist adult and vocational education teachers with meeting the California Teaching Performance Standards for Adult Education (Standards 10 - 18).
  • (Level 1 course) Provide part and full-time teachers with a strong foundation for providing adult education with a focus on:
    • Diversity in the adult education classroom
    • Key theories of adult learning
    • Effective instructional practices
    • Using instructional technology
    • Assessment to instruction: effective lesson planning
    • Evaluating instruction and student success
    • Introduction to adult education funding
    • Communicating effectively with students
  • (Level 2 course) Provide full-time teachers with advanced education to promote classroom success, including:
    • Supporting a diverse community in the classroom and school
    • Integrating technology into instructional practices
    • Recruiting and retention: Nobody told me I had to sell anything!
    • Enhancing successful student transition through connection to supportive services
    • Understanding how the law and local policy impacts the classroom
    • Understanding adult development stages

Who Should Attend

  • Part and full-time adult and vocational education teachers who need to satisfy the California Teaching Performance Standards for Adult Education (Standards 10-18) as part of a credentialing process.
  • Adult education instructors who wish to enhance their teaching success by learning and applying adult education best practices in the classroom.

Courses Available: TED 7658: Principles and Practices of Adult Education: Level I
TED 7659: Principles and Practices of Adult Education: Level II
TED 7678: Health Education for Adult Education Teachers
Minimum program length: 2 quarters
Tuition costs (estimated): Level I, II and Health Education respectively $725, $875, $240
